01Generates a monthly income/expense ledger sorted by category — housing, food, transport, subscriptions, everything
02Builds a debt payoff calculator with snowball vs. avalanche side-by-side so you can see exactly which saves more interest
03Tracks up to 10 savings goals with progress bars and monthly contribution targets based on your actual leftover cash
04Includes a net worth tracker with asset and liability rows pre-labeled — plus guidance on valuing a home, car, and 401k correctly
05Adds sinking funds for irregular expenses like car repair or holiday gifts so they stop blindsiding you
06If fixed expenses exceed take-home, skips straight to a triage panel — creditor scripts, benchmarks, and a 30-day survival budget before any optimization

What it does

You've been meaning to build a real budget spreadsheet for months. You know what you need: somewhere to track income and spending by category, a way to see your net worth actually moving, a savings goal tracker that tells you when you'll hit your emergency fund, and a debt payoff plan that does the math for you. You just never built it because blank spreadsheets are brutal. This skill builds the whole thing in one conversation. Give it your take-home pay, your recurring bills, your debts with interest rates, and your savings targets — it generates a four-sheet Google Sheets dashboard with working formulas already in place. It knows the difference between avalanche and snowball payoff logic, it'll size your emergency fund correctly, and it won't forget the categories you always forget (annual insurance, car registration, that streaming service you pay quarterly). If your numbers come in underwater — fixed expenses at or above take-home — it doesn't just flag the problem and move on. It builds a triage-first dashboard: a 'Stop the bleeding' panel showing which fixed costs are above benchmark, a creditor-call script, and a 30-day survival budget before it touches optimization at all. Bundled reference guides cover the exact formulas used in every sheet (with Excel equivalents), net worth tracking best practices including how to value illiquid assets without inflating your number, savings goal sizing for emergency funds and down payments, and debt payoff math — so if you want to tweak anything later, you're not guessing. One purchase, no recurring fee, no syncing your bank account to someone else's server.

Frequently asked

Does it actually generate a spreadsheet or just tell me how to build one?
It generates the full spreadsheet structure with Google Sheets formulas you can copy directly into a new sheet. It's not instructions — it's the working file, built around your specific numbers.
I only have some of my numbers ready. Can I still use it, or do I need everything upfront?
You can start with just your take-home pay and it'll use income-tier benchmarks for categories you don't have yet. You can fill in real numbers as you go and the formulas update automatically.
Will it work in Excel or just Google Sheets?
The formulas are written in Google Sheets syntax (SUMIF, ARRAYFORMULA, NPER, etc.). Most will work in Excel but a handful may need small adjustments. The bundled formula reference lists the Excel-equivalent for every formula used — if you're in Excel, you'll have exactly what you need to adapt it.
What happens if my expenses are already higher than my income?
The skill detects this in your inputs and routes to a triage variant instead of a standard budget. You still get a working dashboard, but the lead section is a 'Stop the bleeding' panel: which fixed expenses are above benchmark, a creditor-call script, and a bare-bones 30-day survival budget. Optimization comes after stabilization.
Can't I just prompt Claude myself to build a budget spreadsheet for free?
You can, but you'll get a generic layout and guessed categories. This skill loads dedicated reference guides on debt payoff math, net worth tracking, savings goal sizing, and a full formula library — so the output is specific, the formulas are correct, and it doesn't forget things like sinking funds, the paper vs. liquid net worth distinction, or how to size an emergency fund if you're a 1099 contractor with dependents.
Does this connect to my bank or store any of my financial data?
No. Nothing is synced, stored, or sent anywhere. You type your numbers into the conversation, it builds the spreadsheet, and that's it. The spreadsheet lives in your Google Drive.
