What it does

Session is in 90 minutes and you forgot to prep the second encounter. This is a D&D 5e encounter generator built for active DMs who need a CR-balanced fight plus the narrative connective tissue — not just a monster list. Tell it party size, average party level, setting (frozen tundra, sewer, noble's manor), and tone (grimdark / heroic / comedic) — get back the full encounter ready to run. You get a CR-appropriate monster mix balanced for YOUR party (the standard XP budget formula breaks down at level 1-3 and level 10+, so the skill uses the deadlier math), with HP/AC/attack lines pulled clean for the DM screen. Plus a 3-sentence read-aloud that sets the scene without rambling, round-1 tactics ('goblin chief uses his bonus to disengage and falls back behind the archers — kobolds skirmish toward the squishiest target'), and level-appropriate treasure that includes a magic item the party will actually want to attune to. Bundled reference: a CR-by-party-size table that corrects the DMG XP budget for the breakpoints where it lies, plus monster tactics templates by creature type. The encounter you wish you'd prepped 20 minutes ago.

Frequently asked

How do I balance a D&D 5e encounter for a party of four level 5s without using Kobold Fight Club?
Tell the skill the party (size, level, key roles), setting, and tone. It calculates the encounter using the deadlier-XP-budget math (because the DMG default underestimates threat for parties of 4-5), then picks a monster mix that matches your setting. You get HP/AC/attacks formatted for the DM screen.
Does it just give me monsters or also the read-aloud and tactics?
Both. Every encounter ships with a 3-sentence box-text read-aloud and round-1 tactics per monster (who targets whom, who hangs back, who triggers reinforcements). The narrative connective tissue is the part most encounter generators skip.
Will the treasure scale to my party level or just hand out a +1 sword every time?
Treasure scales to APL and party level — at low levels you'll see consumables and uncommon items, at high levels you'll see attunement-worthy magic items and reasonable gold piles. It explicitly avoids vendor trash.
Can I use this with homebrew monsters or Adventurers League restrictions?
Yes for homebrew — paste the stat block and the skill incorporates it. For Adventurers League, set the tone flag to 'AL-compliant' and it'll pull only from official 5e sources within the typical AL constraints.
Does it work for one-shots and pickup games or only ongoing campaigns?
Both. For pickup games, the encounters are designed to be self-contained — the read-aloud lands without prior context. For ongoing campaigns, you can paste a session summary and the encounter will reference established NPCs and threats.
